Q1: Imagine that the rest of the world really has forgotten New Zealand exists, what are the pros and cons of being in the world but not part of it? some of the pros are that we will not be noticed as much and might be given more independence. we might also have less tourists. 

Q2: Why would, for example, India or China be upset if a map was made without their country on it, but map-makers are happy to forget New Zealand? china and India are huge country's and the make huge contributions to society. for example nearly everything you own is made in china and India makes the most films each year out of any country. 

Q3: Use a computer or by freehand, draw your own map of the world and remove a country without telling anyone. What does the map look like? Is it odd or is the missing country unnoticeable? Show it to classmates, can they recognise which country is missing?

Q4: 4) Research into how maps have changed and evolved over time. Look at all the changes and how map-makers have shown the world in different ways. What kinds of things do you notice? Can you spot the same countries and cities in maps from different times and places? old maps seem to be smoother and have less lumps. and the do not contain NZ or Antarctica.

Hurricane sinks Spanish treasurer ships.

On this day in history 1715 a hurricane strikes the east coast of Florida. it sinks 10 Spanish treasurer ships and kills about 1000 people. all the gold and silver fell overboard. some coins still wash up on the beaches of Florida today. the ships had just left Cuba and where on there way to Spain.

Johnson, the paperback writer.

This was a quick write done in five minutes. the topic was a paperback writer and the learning objective was to give details of a character. 

“I have wrote many a novel” pleads Johnson, “where are they” demands constable bob? “They were burnt

in the fire that destroyed my home” replies Johnson with tears in his eyes. “The law states that in order

for a person to be declared a paperback writer and not be put in prison they have to have created at least

ten legible books in less than a year” says bob. “You however don't have a single one” finishes bob as he

shuts the jail cell door.

When Johnson was young he was fascinated by paperback books. Not only where the stories fascinating

but because the had paperbacks they were very flexible. When Johnson was five he made a rope out of

paperback books. He loved them so much that when he turned 18 he got himself officially declared a

paperback writer.

He wrote about 56 paperback books but unfortunately they were destroyed in a fire caused by to much

wood on the fire. This is how he ended up in jail.

Weekly reflection.

This week has been an amazing week and I have really enjoyed it. I would like to manage my time better next week and get more stuff done. My most favourite part was that I got to do lot's of scratch and I also go to teach other people. overall I enjoyed this week but I think I could to better.

The gladiator

This was a 5 minute quick write and the learning objective was conflict.

I hear the crowd cheering, I had just killed all my opponents. The stadium floor was covered in blood.
Some of it was mine, but I did not care. I had just become the best gladiator in the world.

Since I was born I loved to fight. I fought my brother, I fought the school bully and guess what the most
amazing part about it was? I always won. I remember one fight I had with billy Jones. He tried to punch
me in the face but I quickly reacted and smashed him first. Everyone loved me after that. No one had
ever taken on billy Jones and come out alright, ever.

When I turned 15 my dad suggested since I was so good at fighting I should become a gladiator. So here
I am, I became the best gladiator in the whole word.

This was written by me in 5 minutes.

I am so excited my cousin is coming over today! I have never actually met my cousin but I have heard
so much about her. Apparently her dad is a lion and so she is leonine.

I hear grinding of tyres on gravel and I rush to the window to see who is coming. It is a red minivan with a
slender roof rack. It fits the description of my cousins car so I skip down the stairs two at a time and rush
to the front door.

I am excited and nervous at the same time so I cautiously open the door and see my cousin for the first
time. She has the body of a girl but the head of a lion. Any normal person would have screamed and ran
but I was prepared for this. I had been watching horror movies for the last three nights and so I bring up
the courage to say hi.

Unfortunately it is the last word I say because at that moment my cousin ferociously attacks me and then
eats me. Never mess with lions.

Holiday recount.

My holidays were quite uneventful because I did not go very far away from home or do
very much but I will give you a run down on my main highlights and downsides.

My highlights where that I watched the incredible's 2 with my grandparents followed by lunch out,
I also had a lot of fun at the bookarama and I went to the tomb builder day at the library. At the tomb builder day we decorated a real sized Egyptian tomb. I also saw my second cousin and got to see my auntie.

My downsides where that most of my holidays where spent at home and I didn’t really get to see any of
my friends.

Overall from my perspective my holidays where quite average but I plan to have more fun next time.
